More importantly, it will teach them about discipline early on in their lives. 1. Flamingo

One of the easiest yoga poses for kids is the Flamingo. If you've been practicing yoga for a while now, you'll recognize this pose as the Warrior 3 pose. It is great for strengthening the core and the legs as well as for improving balance.

How to do it:

Start by standing straight with your feet together. Extend your arms to the sides like wings, slowly lean forwards then kick your left leg behind you. For extra fun, flap your wings and squawk like a flamingo but be sure to stay balanced on one foot. After 5-8 seconds, switch legs.

2. Tree

Another balancing pose that your kids will enjoy is the tree pose, which is designed to lengthen the spine and strengthen the legs.

How to do it:

Start with both feet together. Slowly bend your right knee and place the sole of your foot on the side of your left leg. Then slowly stretch your hands over your head with the palms together. Sway like a tree in the wind without losing your balance for some added fun.

3. Frog

Designed to increase your child's flexibility in the lower back and hips, the Frog pose is definitely a fun one to start with when teaching yoga for kids.

How to do it:

Starting with your feet wide apart, do a squat by bending your knees. Place your hands behind your feet then slowly rock your weight forward. Coming from your hands and feet, quickly pop up like a hopping frog. Don't forget to croak and do the ribbit sound!

4. Bridge

You'll be surprised how flexible kids can be, so this one is a fun pose to teach them. It will help tone the arms and the thighs and will also help improve flexibility.

How to do it:

Start by lying on your back. Slowly bend your knees with your feet flat on the ground. Slowly bend your shoulders and place your palms flat on the ground (above your shoulders) with your fingers facing your feet. Press your hands and feet toward the floor then lift your hips upward. For added fun, have your kids walk forward, backwards and sideways if they can.

5. Boat

This balancing pose is usually done without your hands to your feet, but in yoga for kids, the hands are used for better balance. The Boat pose is great for toning the abs and for improving balance.
